The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan
St. John’s Encouraged
Hurricane Relief Efforts
People have been asking about St. John’s involvement in hurricane relief. Here are some of the ways in which we are involved with those efforts:
Prayer – Those displaced, those who mourn, and those who care for them are being prayed for at our two Sunday Communion Services, three weekday Communion Services, and ten weekday Daily Offices ... in addition to everyone's personal prayers!
Financially – We have referred people to the Episcopal Church's relief arm, Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). Their flier has been in the Sunday bulletin the last few weeks. Donations can be made on-line to ERD, as well as to these other St. John’s encouraged relief organizations:
– We are working with the Churches of our new Deanery (the Detroit parishes) through the coordination efforts of Canon Saundra Richardson
Finally, I am grateful that, as I predicted in my sermon on the Sunday following the disaster, more and more stories are coming to the forefront about heroic sacrifices and faith-filled efforts on the part of those who live in the affected areas!
Under His Mercy,
Fr. Steven J. Kelly, SSC
